MISSION HILLS CANYON CLEANUP with the Creek to Bay Cleanup, Sat. April 30, 9-Noon
Our last Cleanup event (co-sponsored by I Love a Clean San Diego) in September was a HUGE success! About 40 volunteers came together and took on a vast patch of giant reeds and trash, and RIPPED through it singing and laughing. I could hardly get them to stop at quitting time, even when the pizza arrived! The City crews that were on site to help haul it out were amazed at the energy and tenacity of our Canyon volunteers. There was such a dramatic difference in the area that photos of the area won a "Before and After" photo contest amongst all the 40 or so sites of that Coastal Cleanup Day. We were a major part of CCD's overall total removal of some 260,000 pounds of debris from the County's beaches and watersheds.
We will do it again on April 30. Our goal is to finish off with the removal of the rest of the Arundo (giant reed, an invasive plant), trash, and other stuff from the head of the Canyon across from Pioneer Park, to continue preparing the area for native plant restoration.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS for this event. More details later. Have teenagers in need of Community Service Hours? This is a good opportunity to get them. There will also be free give-aways and door prizes!
Meet behind the tennis courts across from Pioneer Park.
