Mission Hills Christmas TreeThe scent of Christmas trees wafting from the Mission Hills Nursery and twinkling lights adorning homes and business throughout the neighborhood herald the coming of the holidays in Mission Hills.   There are several events taking place during this festive season, so support your local businesses while you do your holiday shopping and help spread good cheer by participating in the MH Town Council food drive.

The Mission Hills Town Council is participating in the San Diego Food Bank food drive for the 2nd year in a row. The collection bins will be at Mission Hills Fabric Care and The Gathering.  Last year we collected 228 pounds of food  - help us double that this year!

On Saturday Dec. 3rd from 4-7pm there will be a holiday neighborhood get together at Espresso Mio to benefit Summer Concerts in the Park.  Local painters Mark Fehlman and Paul Dean will be showcasing their recent work in the French countryside and 50% of all proceeds will be donated to Concerts in the Park for 2012.

On Sunday Dec. 4th from 11am-3pm Santa will be in the hills!  His sleigh will be pulling up at the Coldwell Banker office at 1621 W. Lewis St.  Children are invited to meet Santa and have their photos taken with him by professional photographer Meredith French.  Each family will receive one FREE 4x6 print, and cards and reprints will be available.  Pets are also welcome and refreshments will be served. This is Ginny Ollis’s last year hosting this annual event, so come by and say “farewell”!  They will also be collecting presents for Toys for Tots – so if you choose to bring a donation, please bring it unwrapped.

Santa with pet photosOn Sunday Dec. 11th, Vespa Motorsport (3955 Pacific Highway), right down the hills from Mission Hills, is holding their 4th annual Charity Toy Run at 9am. Riders are invited to bring a donation of one unwrapped toy or gift for the children at the San Diego Center for Children. They will meet at the shop and then Mayor Sanders and Santa Claus will load up the toys and bring them down to the Center for Children, while everyone goes on a sweet scooter ride through beautiful San Diego. This is a great event that riders talk about all year, so don't miss out!

On Wednesday Dec. 14th from 5-7pm the MH Business Improvement District presents Mission Nights.  There will be holiday music by strolling barbershop quartet “Tuesday Night Alibi” and the lighting of the Christmas tree will take place at 7pm under the Mission Hills sign.  Complimentary photos with Santa will be taken at 870 W. Washington St for the kids and at Howlistic (930 W. Washington St) for pets!  The Hernholm Group at Pacific Sotheby's is sponsoring the Francis W. Parker WitKids first fundraising event - the WitKids will sell coco and cookies at Mission Nights to raise money for the SD Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids Backpack Program.  Many of your favorite neighborhood shops will be open for holiday shopping – so come out and enjoy the festivities and support your local businesses!

Ascent Real Estate will be holding their 3rd Annual Holiday Lights Contest December 18 with judging taking place between approximately 6 -7pm. Entrants can register at www.ascentrealestate.net or call Shawn Dooley at 619-540-2333 before December 16.  Let’s brighten up the neighborhood with holiday spirit!

Mission Hills Nursery offers the finest and freshest trees available as well as a large selection of hand-crafted fresh holiday wreaths, garlands, and poinsettias.  Support your local nursery and avoid worrying about a tree strapped to the top of your car on the highway!
