Neighborhood Organizations

  • Mission Hills Heritage works to preserve the history and character of Mission Hills. It supports redevelopment that fits the character, style and scale of our neighborhood that is accompanied by needed public facilities and infrastructure.
  • The Mission Hills Town Council was established in 2007 to serve the residents of Mission Hills as a unified voice, and a way to communicate with our elected officials and each other about what concerns us as neighbors and residents of the Mission Hills area.
  • The Mission Hills Garden Club was established in the early 1990's to bring together those neighbors and friends who had an interest in gardening and community beautification. They hold monthly meetings in the evenings with speakers, allowing an eclectic group to attend and enjoy sharing their knowledge and interests. They also have many members' events throughout the year: Coffee in the Garden, Wine in the Garden, field trips and workshops.  Their biggest annual event is the Garden Club Walk, held on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. Their monthly meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of the month at the United Church of Christ, 4070 Jackdaw Street (corner of Lewis & Jackdaw). It starts at 6pm for socializing and the speaker begins at 6:30pm.  The monthly meeting is free to members and guests pay $10. Their annual membership is $35, or $50 per couple.
  • The San Diego Uptown News is a community newspaper specializing in community news, business briefs, opinions, editorials, event calendars, and entertainment. It serves the communities of Mission Hills, Bankers Hill, Hillcrest, University Heights, North Park, South Park, Normal Heights, Kensington and surrounding areas.
  • The Presidio Sentinel is a community newspaper that serves Mission Hills and Point Loma and is published right here in the neighborhood!
  • Uptown Partnership aspires to balance parking availability, traffic circulation, transit services, and pedestrian mobility in a way that enhances the vibrancy of the Uptown community.
  • In 1989 at the urging of local businesses and residents, the city of San Diego formed the Mission Hills Business Improvement District (MHBID). The Mission Hills BID helps business owners with issues pertaining to city regulations, public right-of-way compliance, enforcing neighborhood policies and other municipal matters. They hold monthly meetings at The Frame Maker the first Wednesday of the month at 3:15 PM.
  • Uptown Planners is the city-recognized community-planning advisory board for the neighborhoods of Bankers Hill/Park West, Middletown, Mission Hills, Hillcrest, and University Heights (west of Park Boulevard). Monthly meetings provide information about upcoming land use issues and a forum for dialogue related to various land use and development issues. Discussion topics may originate from the City, from residents and business owners or from applicants with projects who are seeking input as part of the permit process.
